The foundation Eutopia, an international platform for politics, culture and art devoted in particular to stimulating the input of migrant-intellectuals in national debates, presented a master class about multiculturalism and engagement. The participating artists were asked to design a campaign image related to the theme of multiculturalism. Discipline and form were free, as was the statement. However the statement had to fit within the chosen theme. The final concepts were exhibited in the city hall of The Hague. The following is one of the three designs nominated for the ‘Artist in Action prize’; The artwork consists out of a series of posters which, if presented separately seem to communicate a rather undesirable, nationalistic message. When one subsequently looks at the posters next to each-other the point of the campaign becomes clear. By literally zooming out from the limited, nationalistic standpoint and showing the broader reality the former is being unmasked. Also is the relation between national identity and commerciality being highlighted by presenting the bloodbag as a product. The artwork consists further more out of the website www.bloedforum.nl where visitors can debate, from offered and contributed statements surrounding the topic of multiculturalism. __________________________________________________________________
